Arabic letters are made of motions within.

Arabic letters are made of motions within. They embody traces of millennia of gestures, thoughts, and artistic refinement. They are the body of many civilizations’ contributions.

As a researcher-practitioner, I strive to provide alternative pathways to designing Arabic typefaces, both in form and technology, in order to drive Arabic type to its utmost potential.

I am happy to collaborate with companies and agencies on projects involving Arabic lettering (from logotypes to creating word shapes that will be seen from space), and to craft custom Arabic typefaces that can bring the Arabic script to higher levels of modernity, expressivity, and technical finesse.

In May 2023, I launched Ama Foundry: a space to share my typefaces and my type stories with the world.

During most of my career, I’ve been designing Arabic typefaces for multiple technologies, teaching and regularly speaking at type conferences and design events around the world.

In March 2016, I co-founded “Arabic Type Design - Beirut”; the first international educational program dedicated to Arabic type design.
